Doing what we are trained to do April 2013 Jim Mackie, M. Ed., ATC, LAT

Many witnessed the gruesome injury of Wade, the Louisville Basketball Player. While shocking visually it’s the Athletic Trainer and Physician who respond first with care and compassion. Throughout my career, I have had to respond to some very serious injuries and some I hope I will never see. We as Athletic Trainers must first prafor what we hope never happens, respond to the situation, put in to practice our skills & education, and then learn what we need to learn. Sometimes it’s after the endorphins & adrenaline settle we put things back into perspective. Remembering that much of what we do involves prevention.
